Under average sunlight conditions in China, a 1-kilowatt distributed PV system can generate around 1,200 kWh of electricity per year. This means Photovoltaic Power can effectively convert solar energy into electrical energy, providing a clean, reliable energy supply. Unlike fossil fuels, PV power does not require mining, transportation, or combustion, thereby eliminating energy losses and waste associated with these processes.

  A 1-kilowatt distributed Photovoltaic Power can reduce coal usage by approximately 400 kilograms and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 1 ton per year.   In terms of CO₂ reduction, installing 1 square meter of PV panels is equivalent to planting 100 square meters of trees.   The PV industry stimulates related industries, such as PV component manufacturing, installation, and maintenance, generating a substantial number of jobs. This not only supports economic growth but also enhances social stability.

 4. Energy Return Over the Lifecycle

While critics point out that producing PV components consumes significant energy, a full lifecycle assessment of PV cells provides a clearer picture. Producing PV cells requires energy, particularly in stages like industrial silicon purification and the production of high-purity polysilicon and silicon ingots. However, over their 20-year lifespan, PV cells continuously generate energy.

Estimates show that, under China’s average sunlight conditions, PV systems can return over 15 times the energy consumed in production. For instance, a 1-kilowatt rooftop PV system in Beijing with optimal tilt has an energy payback period of just 1.5 to 2 years—far shorter than its service life. In other words, the electricity generated during the first 1.5 to 2 years compensates for the energy consumed in its production, and the energy generated after this period is net output.

As technology continues to improve and costs continue to decrease, the future of PV power looks even brighter.
